How Mike Frederiksen discovered the sweet sound of... coding?

A Creative Path Into IT
Mike’s journey into IT wasn’t planned from the beginning. For many years, he worked with music and creative projects, using computer programs to create visual and technical elements for his music.
Along the way, he began to discover that programming could be used as a creative tool.
“I’ve always played a lot of music and worked creatively. At some point, I started using the computer to make visual elements for the music, and that’s when I discovered programming. It was pretty cool to write code and make something happen.”
After a period of exploring different options – including university studies – he ended up in the Computer Science Academy Profession program (datamatiker) at Aarhus University, where the more practical approach to IT suited him better.
“It was very hands-on. You build things, you write code, and you create solutions. That really appeals to me.”

Building Solutions That Help Others
Today, Mike works as a consultant at LEGO in a department focused on networks and connectivity.
Here, he develops self-service solutions that make it easier for employees across the organization to access systems and set up technical solutions without going through long processes.
“I work a lot on building systems that make it easier for people inside the company to get things working. It’s about creating solutions that save time and make everyday life easier.”
For Mike, the work is meaningful because it combines technical problem‑solving with creativity.
“I actually see IT as a creative field. You build something from scratch, find solutions to problems, and design systems that work in the real world.”

A Message to Young People Considering IT
If Mike were to give advice to young people thinking about an IT education, it would be that you don’t need to fit a specific stereotype.
“You don’t have to be the classic ‘computer type’. IT can be many things, and there’s room for different interests and ways of thinking.”
He especially highlights the many opportunities in the field.
“There are so many paths in IT. You can work creatively, technically, strategically – and there are always new things to learn. If you’re curious and enjoy building and creating solutions, IT is a really exciting place to be.”
