How an interest in Mathematics turned into a Software Developer career

What made you choose an IT education?

I’ve always found both mathematics and computers fascinating. So it quite naturally started pointing me in the direction of computer science. I moved to Aarhus in 2019 to study computer science at Aarhus University, and it quickly felt like the right choice.

During my studies, I discovered just how exciting problem‑solving is. A lot of computer science is about analyzing a problem and finding the best way to solve it. That way of thinking suited me really well.

I also had different roles at the university, including teaching computer architecture and cryptology. That gave me the opportunity to dive even deeper into technical subjects and share my knowledge with others.

What do you work with today – and why does it feel meaningful?

Today, I work as a software developer at Trifork. I graduated at the beginning of 2025 and was subsequently recruited for the position through Epico.

My work is very much about solving complex problems and developing solutions that work in practice. It can be anything from designing systems to finding the most efficient way to implement a solution.

It feels meaningful because the work constantly challenges me professionally. At the same time, it’s motivating to be part of a team where we find solutions together and build something that actually gets used.

What would you say to a young person considering an IT education but feeling unsure?

If you’re curious and enjoy solving problems, IT is a really exciting path to take. Many people think you need to have been coding your whole life to start an IT education, but that’s far from necessary.

The most important thing is that you want to learn and are interested in how things work. There are also many different directions within IT – so there are great opportunities to find something that matches your interests.

At the same time, the job prospects are very good, and you can work on many different types of projects and industries.
